District Magistrate (North Goa), Shri Ankit Yadav, IAS, chaired a meeting of the Special Cell on Solid Waste Management, constituted pursuant to the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court in Civil Appeal No. 6174 of 2023, to ensure effective implementation, monitoring and enforcement of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026 along with representative of concerned departments including panchayat, municiaplities, GWMC, GSPCB.
The meeting reviewed the mandate and functioning of the Special Cell, the identification and registration of Bulk Waste Generators (BWGs), the status of complaints pertaining to illegal dumping and littering, inspection schedules prepared by the Taluka Level Special Cells, and the framework for submission of fortnightly monitoring reports. Progress of capacity-building programmes conducted for officials of Urban Local Bodies and Village Panchayats was also reviewed to facilitate effective implementation of the Rules.
The District Magistrate directed all concerned departments, Urban Local Bodies, Village Panchayats and Taluka Level Special Cells to strengthen inter-departmental coordination, undertake regular inspections of illegal dumping sites and Bulk Waste Generators, ensure timely submission of reports, and strictly enforce the provisions of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, in accordance with the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court, to promote scientific waste management and a cleaner, sustainable North Goa
