14 November – Birth Anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru
On the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, it is important to remind the nation — especially those in power — of the undeniable truth:
Modern India was built on the foundations laid by Nehru’s vision, leadership, and conviction.
India’s democratic institutions, scientific infrastructure, public sector enterprises, foreign policy framework, constitutional values, and commitment to secularism were all shaped during Nehru’s era. These are not partisan claims; these are historical facts.
Yet, it is unfortunate that many leaders of the ruling party, including the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa, repeatedly attack the Congress without even understanding the history that gave them the very platform they stand on today.
Criticism without knowledge is not leadership — it is political posturing.
Pandit Nehru’s iconic work, “The Discovery of India,” is not just a book.
It is a mirror to India’s civilisation, culture, and intellectual legacy. It reflects Nehru’s mind, India’s soul, and the arduous journey of nation-building after Independence.
It also documents the contribution of countless leaders and freedom fighters who shaped India — including, but not limited to, the Congress Party.
I am sending this book to the Hon’ble Chief Minister and other ruling party leaders — not as a political reply, but as a responsibility.
Before attacking Congress, before distorting history, before speaking against Nehru, every leader must understand the nation they are governing.
India’s history cannot be erased, rewritten, or replaced.
And Nehru’s legacy cannot be diminished by speeches — only strengthened by truth.
Today, as we honour Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the Congress Party reaffirms its commitment to protecting India’s democratic values, secular spirit, and constitutional ethos — the very principles Nehru dedicated his life to.
